As a racing greyhound he is found as a puppy in a river. He is found by Patrick, his first owner. His life starts off very happy with Patrick as an owner. But will he ever find a real home?
Michael Morpurgo writes incredible, and so is this book. The book He starts out as an abandoned puppy who has been left to drown in the canal. He is saved by young Patrick who names him Best Mate and keeps him as a pet. They were made for each other and are very happy together. But then Best Mate is getting stolen by Craig, an evil greyhound racer. Comes Best Mate eventually by the loved Patrick or is he not.
I liked the way the story was told from Best Mate's point of view as well as his owners. I found myself really feeling for the characters and thinking about the story long after I had finished reading it. It was exciting because you didn’t know what’s gonna happen with Best Mate. I really wanted to know how it ended. It was also really sad sometimes. It was not a really difficult book. Sometimes the word use was a little difficult but it made the book not impossible to read. The book hasn’t a lot of pages so you can read out it fast. I really recommend this book because it’s well written from the dogs perspective. By some points in the book the storyline was really extended, this made it very slow. That’s when i thought it was a bit boring, but overall it was a really exciting book where you really wanna read further in the book.
The book-cover isn’t really my style. If I saw this book in the library it didn’t interest me. On the other hand, the back of the book dit hit me. I was interested right away.
The author of the book is Michael Morpurgo. He is a British children’s book author. He first worked 10 years as a teacher on a primary school. He’s story’s are funny and adventurous. Animals are often a big part of his story and the relationship between animals and human is very important.
I really recommend this book! I give it a 8 out of a 10
